Broody update

I have just received an email from Castle farm to say the eggs are due to hatch on Thursday !! I quite like this 'instant' hatching, it saves on all the anxiety that builds up over 21 days. As it is early in the year and the eggs were set as a test hatch for fertility, it will be interesting to see how successful it is.

I don't think the hen left the nest at all yesterday but today when I went to collect the eggs from the layers, she was off the nest and making quite a racket, replying to the hen who was announcing to the world that she had just laid.

A quick peep in the nest revealed 11 eggs not 9 as I thought. A couple were a little dirty ( I think the broody relieved herself on the journey home) but hopefully being this close to the hatch date it shouldn't be a problem.

After 15 minutes I quickly checked that the broody had settled back onto her nest...she had bless her.

I do hope some hatch .
