The promise of rain

Yesterday afternoon we caught the weather forecast.....a band of rain passing through late evening, early hours of the morning, with the possibility of more to come during the start of the week.

Fantastic ..we are so desperate for rain, everyone and everything is beginning to be affected. Grass is at an all time low. We had already moved the sheep onto fresh ground in the morning, but with the promise of rain there were a few more jobs we needed to get done first.

We stopped work on reslating the pigeon loft, covered it for protection and concentrated on the garden.

We pulled up the broad bean plants, worked more compost into the ground and transplanted the sprout plants. Moved a few plants in the garden, and worked and reseeded the area of ground around the layers house that had become bare and compacted.

During the night I woke a few times and listened...nothing. This morning it is hard to tell if we even had a shower. The band of rain appears to have 'missed ' us.

Same here :-(

There is some rain forecast for next week but I fully expect it to miss us. Hard times for gardeners, smallholders and farmers.
