The last of....
We are getting to the time of year when fruit and vegetables from last year are running short. Each time I go to the freezer or shed I think "well that's the last of...."
Meat is still in plentiful supply; several pigs in various forms, a lamb, couple of turkeys, goose, duck, pheasant, rabbit and fish- mackerel, scallops and crab fill the freezers.
Vegetables however are a different matter. The potatoes have long gone, on Sunday we picked the last of the sprouts and leeks, a bucket of 'past it' parsnips sit outside the back door waiting to be made into soup. There are only a couple of onions left on the string in the shed.
The freezer is empty of beans, French and runner. The tomatoes were used months ago, the only remaining parsley is the sorry, frost wilted plants in the garden.
There are no more apples and only one bag of plums. The big decision is how to use it - plum chutney or plum jam both equally as popular.

That's why it's called the hungry gap I guess, can't wait to be eating freshness again
It will be good. I love that first plate of 'home grown fresh from the garden' meal.
